We Care is a non-profit 501(c)(3) agency, primarily run by volunteers and one half-time employee, our Intake Coordinator. Assistance is not given directly to the applicant, but to the providers of a service to the assisted household (e.g. the property manager in the case of rental assistance, the power company in the case of energy assistance, etc.). Those who come seeking assistance from We Care are told that We Care’s money doesn’t come from federal or state grants, but from the generosity of members in their local community who are concerned about them and act to help. For many facing extraordinary difficulties, that simple message provides an affirmation of their value and a vision of hope.
